Rome wasn't built in a day... / by Tyson Pop

You already knew that.

But Mario, my barber, reminded this week.

Whenever I walk past his shop I'm always amazed at how many people are there waiting for a haircut. Then on Saturday when I was getting my own new trim, I counted 11 new customers come in to wait to get theirs done.

It was incredible.

I wasn't in the there for long.

I asked him his secret.

He said, "I've kept it simple - Give great haircuts and look after my customers every single day."

When he opened his shop at the age of 25, it was just his family and friends stopping by. But as the weeks, months and years went by, the word started to spread that if you needed a haircut, Mario is the guy to see. Now, after 16 years in the business, he's the go-to man in the area.

In other words, he played the long game and it worked.

Here's what Mario reminded me:

We all want to be the overnight success. But it takes years of commitment to be one. (Tweet that for sure).

So don't rule yourself out too quickly.

Maybe you just need a few more years.

Why are you in such a hurry?

Rome wasn't built in a day.
